THE DX1 IS A MODEL THAT HAS EVOLVED THROUGHOUT THE PAST 15 YEARS AND HAS BECOME A GO TO SHORTBOARD FOR A NUMBER OF THE WORLDS BEST.
The original file began with Parko and was ridden in numerous contests and free surfing clips. Fast forward to 2015 and after a few adjustments to the file the DX1 was crowned #1 by Julian Wilson in the "Stab In the Dark" project.
After It’s success in "Stab In The Dark" the board soon became a team favourite, especially for Jack Freestone which after feedback and a few more alterations became the JF DX1.
The PHASE 3 has been a year in the works and is back to being a top favourite amongst the DHD team.
This model has a little extra width through the nose and tail which has added a touch more volume through the chest.
To keep the boards performance DH has kept the rails low especially through the tail of the board. This along with a fairly straight rail outline give the board endless speed and drive.
A slightly lowered rocker gives this board plenty of up and go speed, this has allowed DH to tone down it’s single concave which helps free the board up through turns, especially when the waves are a little softer.
Whether you’re grinding it out on the QS or looking for an everyday shortboard to take you to the next level, you’ll find space in the quiver for a DX1 PHASE 3.

Darren Handley grew up on Australia’s wave rich Gold Coast, a unique place in the World with regards to the high concentration of world famous waves and the talent the coast continually produces. It is the Gold Coast’s variety of waves that has allowed Darren to hone his skills for creating the most responsive boards in the world.
Regarded as one of the world’s best shapers the writing is on the wall in terms of DH’s achievements, including 3X ASP World Champion Mick Fanning and 7X ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore.
DH is not simply a shaper, but rather the complete surfboard manufacturer. At nearly 50 years old, I’m still picking up the sander and working in the glass room, I’m hands on. It’s all about the perfect surfboard, and surrounding yourself with the most skilled workers in the industry, to create that ultimate ride. - DH
Although Darren has paved much of the way for himself, he is heavily influenced by his team riders and those closest to him in the surfing community. Awesome board, it flies, paddles well and holds good yet turns on a dime. Used futures Alpha T1 + stabiliser and Alpha F8 thrusters and felt like it was designed for either so super versatile. Phantom phlex is insane construction very solid yet lively at the same time and light. A++++
ive been wearing this model reef boot for nearly 20 years these are a upgrade in certain aspects but you cant get a better design very difficult for waves to rip off and also plenty of feel i use them even when not on reefs the extra traction is only a bonus dont get me wrong sea urchins can penetrate any bootie but if you want to look after your feet especially in the tropics these are my pick got to have the split toe on any boot your big toe does a lot have an injured big toe and you realise how much you control with it
On the recommendation from the Sandbah boys, bought these fins for my daily driver (Stacey Wave Slave), the smaller back fin is great and keeps the board lively/playful.
Used them in my HPSB (Channel Islands Two Happy) in solid 4ft and gave heaps of drive/confidence.
These are a real go to fin for me, highly recommended.
(Do yourself a favor and buy some grub screws to retain fins, incase like me, you accidently bump your fin under water from behind and lose it, otherwise FCS will gladly sell you a single).
The entire shopping experience was great.
